Alternative Fuels Data Center: Sustainable Aviation Fuel
Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is an alternative fuel made from non-petroleum feedstocks that reduces air pollution from air transportation. SAF can be blended at different levels with limits between 10% and 50%, depending on the feedstock and how the fuel is produced.

SAF Outlook
SAF is produced from a variety of low-carbon feedstocks that must have a combined GHG savings of 50% from conventional fossil jet fuel. SAF, once blended with conventional jet fuel, is a drop-in solution that does not require modifications to existing aircraft or infrastructure.

Sustainable aviation fuel credit - Internal Revenue Service
The sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) credit applies to certain fuel mixtures that contain SAF sold or used after December 31, 2022, and before January 1, 2025. The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (Public Law 117-169, 136 Stat. 1818) created the credit.
